Why Courts Matter

I am writing today because I am concerned that there is not enough diversity on the bench.

Diversity on the federal bench is important because it improves the quality of justice and instills confidence that judges can relate to citizens on a personal basis. Having judges that reflect gender, race, and cultural diversity truly allows adequate representation of all corners of the legal profession.

Studies have shown that having even one woman on a judicial panel can affect the entire panel’s decision in gender discrimination cases. Woman have more rights now more than ever and by 2050 The United States will be a majority- minority state. It’s time that these advances are evident in our political system. I urge you to consider diversity when making judicial recommendations and confirming all judicial nominees.

Thank you for your consideration.
