Restore Workers' Freedom to Form a Union

Tell your members of Congress to support the Employee Free Choice Act.

The act removes obstacles that prevent workers from forming unions and strengthens protections for workers who are attempting to negotiate a first contract with their employer.

Under current law, employers can create excessive delays in union certification and refuse to negotiate a first contract. The penalties employers face for interference are not sufficient to deter abuse. The Employee Free Choice Act creates a framework for mediation and arbitration of first contracts and establishes harsh penalties for employers who harass workers while they are attempting to organize.

The Employee Free Choice Act also simplifies the union certification process by creating a majority sign-up procedure known as "card-check". This procedure allows a union to be recognized when a majority of employees sign authorizations to allow the union to bargain on their behalf. It's a simple, fair, and democratic procedure that would fix a corrupt and broken process.

Update: In the House of Representatives, the Employee Free Choice Act is only five co-sponsors away from reaching a majority. With your support, the act will have a chance to be heard on the floor before the end of this legislative session.
